110th Anniversary Logo Design Competition - Winner Announced

The Department of Surgery, School of Clinical Medicine, Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong (hereafter ‘the Department’) will celebrate the 110th anniversary of its founding in 2025!  To mark this remarkable milestone, the Department hosted the 110th Anniversary Logo Design Competition, inviting students (both Undergraduate and Postgraduate), staff, and alumni from the LKS Faculty of Medicine, HKU, to participate.

We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to all participants for their exceptional creativity and enthusiastic involvement. After a thorough evaluation process, we are thrilled to announce that the winning design was created by Miss Hu Shihang, a PhD student from our Department.

DESIGN CONCEPT

The winning design brilliantly combines the shape of a surgical scalpel with the digit “1” and reinterprets the digit “0” with a unique slanted interior cutout. This innovative concept captures the essence of surgical practice — sharpness and precision—while aligning with our celebration theme: “Embracing the Past, Shaping the Future”. The incorporation of gold and the application of the golden ratio further emphasize the Department’s enduring legacy of prestige and excellence, commemorating this extraordinary milestone in its 110-year history.

The winning design will be prominently featured in a series of celebratory events throughout 2025. We are deeply grateful for the overwhelming support and enthusiasm demonstrated by everyone who contributed to the success of this competition.
