Expertise
- Tumor microenvironment
- Extracellular vesicles
- Cancer metastasis
- Cancer genomics
Biography
Dr Sze Keong Tey obtained his PhD in cancer biology from the University of Hong Kong in 2015 and received his post-doctoral training in both University of Hong Kong and Nanyang Technological University, Singapore before joining Department of Surgery in December 2022 as a Research Assistant Professor.
His research interest is on deciphering the molecular mechanism in regulating tumor microenvironment in different cancers, such as liver and breast cancer. By establishing a well-recognised research platform on extracellular vesicles, Dr Tey and colleagues successfully identified important protein markers within extracellular vesicles that contribute to cancer tumorigenesis and metastasis and could be utilised as cancer diagnostic markers and therapeutic alternatives. He is currently focusing on identifying the putative biomarkers for breast cancer through high-throughput multi-omics screening.
Research interests
- Functional role of tumor-derived extracellular vesicles in tumor microenvironment
- Screening of biomarkers for breast cancer through multi-omics analysis
- Targeting extracellular vesicles as therapeutic alternatives
