Celebration Highlights

The Department of Surgery, School of Clinical Medicine, LKS Faculty of Medicine at the University of Hong Kong (HKUMed) proudly commemorated its 110th anniversary with a series of academic and celebratory events under the theme ‘Embracing the Past, Shaping the Future’. These initiatives united global surgical leaders, alumni, and healthcare professionals to honour a century of achievements and explore innovations shaping the future of surgical care.

  • 110th Anniversary Walkathon – 14 September 2025

    Over 200 guests gathered at The Peak to kick off the 110th anniversary celebrations for the Department of Surgery with a joyful Walkathon. Distinguished guests, faculty, alumni, staff and their family members and even pets joined the vibrant event.

  • Hong Kong Surgical Forum 2025 – 21 to 23 November 2025

    The three-day forum, themed ‘Beyond a Century of Surgical Excellence’, featured lectures and surgical skills training courses in paediatric urology, and hands-on cadaveric workshops in cardiothoracic surgery. A highlight was the Legend Series addressed by Professor Henri Bismuth, who shared insights on hepatobiliary surgery and the role of innovation in advancing the field.

  • Digby Memorial Lecture – 22 November 2025

    Dr Peter TS Wong, Chairman of the Council of the University of Hong Kong, and Chairman of of The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, delivered a lecture titled ‘Reinforcing Hong Kong’s Internationalism’, offering strategic insights into global connectivity and competitiveness.

  • 110th Anniversary Gala Dinner – 22 November 2025

    Over 500 guests attended the Gala Dinner, including the guest of honour, Professor Lo Chung-mau, Secretary for Health of The Government of HKSAR, along with the distinguished leaders from the Government, Hospital Authority, and HKU. Their presence underscored the significance of this milestone and the strong partnerships that have contributed to surgical excellence in Hong Kong. The evening celebrated achievements and strengthened connections among alumni and partners.

Special Initiatives
  • Anniversary Theme Song – ‘Care for You’

    Composed by a renowned musician Ms Chelsia Chan and performed with HKUMed Surgery professors, the song conveys gratitude and hope for healthcare professionals and patients. The accompanying music video reflects the anniversary theme and the journey of surgical growth.
