Biography

Professor Adrian Fung graduated from The University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery in 2013 and received his surgical training at the Department of Surgery, Queen Mary Hospital. He obtained the Diploma in Child Health from the University of Sydney in 2017. He pursued further training in paediatric surgery and attained his fellowship qualifications from the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, the College of Surgeons of Hong Kong, the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine, and the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow in 2023. With the support of multiple scholarships and travelling grants, he received further overseas training on paediatric renal transplant surgery and urology at Great Ormond Street Hospital, Evelina London Children’s Hospital, and Guy’s Hospital in London, as well as Birmingham Children’s Hospital. He serves as a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Surgery at The University of Hong Kong and as an Honorary Associate Consultant at The Hong Kong University-Shenzhen Hospital.

Professor Fung is an active academic surgeon and is the principal investigator in multiple clinical and basic science research projects, with broad academic interests including minimally invasive surgery, paediatric urology, renal transplantation, paediatric oncology, and translational research. He has close collaboration with international research groups and is the international representative for the British Urology Researchers in Surgical Training (BURST) Research Collaborative. To date, he has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals, including Gut, British Journal of Surgery, and the Journal of Pediatric Surgery. He currently serves as the Secretary General of the Asian Association of Pediatric Surgeons and holds the positions of IT Chair and Publication Committee Member for the Pacific Association of Pediatric Surgeons. Additionally, he is an Editor for the Hong Kong Medical Journal and sits on the editorial boards of several publications, including Pediatric Blood and Cancer and BMC Pediatrics. Professor Fung has also been an invited speaker on various paediatric surgical topics in the media, at local institutions, and at regional meetings.

Professor Fung has been the Chairperson of the Young Fellows Chapter at the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine and the Vice Chairperson of the Younger Fellow Chapter at The College of Surgeons of Hong Kong. He is also a Council Member of the Hong Kong Society of Paediatric Surgery. Beyond his professional society leadership, he volunteers as a surgeon with Operation Childlife and serves as a Senior Grade V Officer in the Auxiliary Medical Service. In recognition of his clinical and academic contributions, he received the HKWC/QMH/TYH "Young Achiever" Award in 2026.
