Biography

Yiu-Che CHAN graduated from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical School, University of London in 1993 and trained on the higher surgical training program in South-East Thames Deanery, with awarded of Doctorate of Medicine (MD) by the University of London in 2004 for research into immunological aspects of atherosclerosis. After completing his vascular/ general surgical training at various renounced vascular centres such as St. Mary’s Hospital, Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospital, London, and as Senior Vascular Fellow at Guy’s & St. Thomas’ Hospital, Yiu Che CHAN returned to Hong Kong in 2007 and now works as Associate Professor in Division of Vascular Surgery at the University of Hong Kong, based at Queen Mary Hospital. He was awarded multiple travel grants such as the European Society for Vascular Surgery Congress Travel Grant in 2008 and 2000, the Japanese Society for Vascular Surgery Congress Travel Grant in 2008, the UCLA Travelling Scholarship to University of California Los Angeles in 2012, and 1st Congress of Diabetic Limb Salvage Congress Travel Award in 2016. He is currently the Director of Surgical Admissions at Queen Mary Hospital, University of Hong Kong, and council member for Asian Society of Vascular Surgery, and was the Secretary General for the Asian Surgical Association from 2011-2018. He is a vascular surgeon specialising in open and minimally invasive endovascular surgery involving the aorta, peripheral arteries and veins. He is a holder of multiple international and local research grants, and his research interests focus mainly on endovascular surgery and outcome modelling in vascular surgery, with over 150 peer-reviewed publications, and multiple book chapters. He has active subspecialty interests in undergraduate and postgraduate education, and regionally and internationally has helped run multiple endovascular workshops, serving as faculty member and expert proctor for many peripheral arterial and venous devices and is a regular faculty member and invited speaker in international vascular meetings with over 250 presentations. Yiu Che CHAN is currently an Examiner for MHKICBSC Part 3 (serving as examiner and Objective Structured Clinical Examinations (OSCE) Supervisor) and Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh/ College of Surgeons Hong Kong Joint Specialty Fellowship Examination in Vascular Surgery.
