Chromosomal aberration, gene cloning, DNA sequencing, chromosome mapping, genetic engineering, PCR and mutation, SNP and FISH.

Non-invasive Vascular Diagnosis (K14S, QMH)
Non-invasive Vascular Diagnosis (K14S, QMH)

Other than medical and basic research projects, non-invasive diagnostic examinations, including ultrasonographic and physiological tests are performed in the vascular laboratory, contributing to a comprehensive investigation into the diseases concerning the blood vessels.

Animal Research (FOMB L10)
Animal Research (FOMB L10)

The laboratory is well equipped with anaesthetic and transfusion devices, nude mice facility, large- and small-animal holding rooms, a chemotherapeutic experimentation, organ transplantation workstation, X-ray unit and a dark room and preparation room. The most common animals for experiments are pigs, dogs, rabbits, rats and mice (occasionally, cats and hamsters).

Histopathology (FOMB L9-21)
Histopathology (FOMB L9-21)

Almost all research projects in the department have some activities in this laboratory. Over a thousand surgical specimens are sent from operation room per year for tissue processing, sectioning, and histochemical staining. In some cases, specific antibodies directed against certain tumour markers will be used to locate cancerous cells.
